Gratitude Poem

I am thankful for my house, without it I would be cold.
I am thankful for my clothes, without them I would have nothing on
I am thankful for my sister, she makes me laugh
I am thankful for my mom, she loves me a ton
I am thankful for my dad, he helps me out with many things
I am thankful for food, for I am not hungry
I am thankful for water, or else I would be thirsty
I am thankful for my bed, without it I would sleep on the ground
I am thankful for my uncle, he keeps me occupied
I am thankful for my family friend Eddie, for he loves us even though he is a friend
I am thankful for my life, without it I would be dead
I am thankful for my aunts, they love me a lot
I am thankful for my hair, without it I would be bald
I am thankful for my freedom, without it I would probably be enslaved
I am thankful for shoes, or else my feet would get scratched up

 Waterslide Wonders

“Hey guys, do you want to go on Mountain Scream next” I asked the rest of my family.

"Okay" they said.

It was the middle of the day at Dollywood splash country in Tennessee. It was going to get up to about 87 degrees, so that’s why we were at the water park. I was on a vacation with my family there. We wanted to come here because our family loves to go to water parks. We were coming off a tube slide and we were going to go on to Mountain Scream, one of the scarier slides. At the top there are three body slides. Two are enclosed, and one other one is not but it is slanting and has some up and down bumps on it.

I was a little scared, but I had gone on water slide as scary as this one in the Bahamas last summer called the Abyss. I remember that when I went on the Abyss last summer I was scared, but when I went down the slide, It was fun instead. I remember the ridges hitting my back. I wonder if it is going to be like that today?

I was going to go on the one that had the bumps on it  first, and then go on the green ones that were enclosed. We waited patiently in line. I was very anxious. I didn’t know if I was going to like it or not. I asked my Dad “could you go on the slide first?"

      “Of course,” He said.

We got onto the deck where the slides were. We kept waiting. I felt like my head was going to burst with all of the anxiety. To calm myself a little, I looked out at the beautiful mountain scenery from the top of the platform. It was really pretty. Finally, it was my turn. I got into the waiting platform. The water rushed harshly onto my legs from the pipes on either side of the slide. I saw my dad at the bottom of the slide holding a thumbs-up symbol. I felt a little reassured by the thumbs up because I knew if it was bad my dad would be holding a thumbs down.

The lifeguard said “Ok buddy you can go."

I looked one more time down the slide. It looked very steep. When I looked around at my back, and I looked at the people still waiting on the platform I felt like I should go off of the slide and just go down the stairs. I told myself that I couldn't do that. I looked back at the wood platform one time and I told myself I would be fine, then went down the raging water slide.

The water slide was so fast that all I felt was my back against the slide and water rushing all over me. It felt awesome to go as fast as an Olympic runner. I could feel the hard ridges hitting my back like tiny little knives. It felt a little like a massage.  I also could feel the bumps bumping me up a little every time I came in contact with them. With the water rushing against me, it was the best break I've had from all the schoolwork that I did before summer came.

Soon enough the water slide was over. I got out of the bottom of the slide slowly. My whole body was jiggled from the ride. I recovered quickly and soon came walking towards my parents and sister waiting. ‘I did it!’ I kept telling myself. I accomplished what I had wanted to do.

“Good job!” My sister said. “I saw that you were a little scared up there”

“Yeah, well I did go on the Abyss last year.”

"I'm proud of you," my mom said. "I think that you were brave to go on Mountain Scream."

"I thought that it actually was pretty fun."

      "Really!" My mom said

"Yes" I said We started walking to another, more moderate slide. Inside, I was proud of myself. I discovered that sometimes things aren't as scary as they seem.

Criterion

I did criterion today. Here is my work.

"Guys wait" my dad said

"Why" we said

"I think I see some black bears up ahead. Keep whispering. If we don't bother them, they won't bother us" he said

My family and I were coming back from a trail that went to a waterfall in The Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. There was a bridge on the waterfall where you could walk across and look at the waterfall up close and I got my shoes soaked through.

So now, with soaking wet shoes and socks, we were walking back from the waterfall when my dad  noticed some black bears around the corner of the trail.

"Wow" I said

There were five babies that were coming across the dirt road along with a mom. I knew that I had to keep quiet or else we were all toast. The sleek black fur of the mom bear was as black as night and it looked as shiny as a new paint job on a car.

I felt like the mom bear had a quiet leadership, and that if we did anything to harm her we would get very injured.

The five minutes that we were standing there felt like 5 hours instead. I felt I had to sit still and do nothing for that amount of time. I couldn't do anything; I felt my life depended on it.

After a few minutes, some people came up the other way on the path. We started doing bear impressions so that they would get the message that they would have to wait a little before they would be able to cross.

After a little more time had passed, they started to go down the hill on the other side of the path. 'Wow' I thought to myself 'those are really steep sides, I wonder how they get down them'.

My dad started to walk forward. "Get back here" my mom said "there's still a baby bear out there and I would expect that the mom is going to come back for it.

The baby bear went down the hill after the mom and the other babies. "Whew" my sister, my mom, and I said

After that amazing experience, we continued down the path. 'wow' I thought 'that was cool' That was really important to me because it was a really amazing experience that I don't think I will ever get in my life again.

Halloween

"Hey guys, lets go to this house next!" I said to my friend Ethan and my sister Rachel

"Ok" they said

It was Halloween night, and we were about halfway through our usual trick-or-treating. It was still misting outside, and we were going to go to a white house on our right side.

Ethan was dressed up as a werewolf, but he had taken off his mask close to the beginning because it was annoying him. Rachel was dressed up as a cat, and it was actually a last-minute decision. At first she didn't even know if she wanted to go the whole way.

We started to go up the black driveway, and between the two cars, being careful to not hit our umbrellas on the cars. "Which way do we go?" I asked

"I think that we are supposed to go to the door on the front." my sister said

"Well, we are already at this back door, so I hope it works."

We knocked on the door and said "Trick-or-treat!!!"

It took a little while, but they opened the door.

"Is this the wrong entrance?" I asked

"Yeah it is, but that's okay, we're  flexible."

After that, they continued to give us candy. I went first. They gave me so much! First up were about 30 sour punch licorice twirls, then I got two air heads extremes, and finally they gave me about five of these krakel crunch candies that I had never heard of before.

I listened to the suspenseful 'plop!' of candy in my plain white pillowcase that I was using to store candy.

"Thanks so much!" I said to the plump lady at the door.

"Your very welcome!" She said to me

I watched as Rachel and Ethan got the same amount.
